This book grew out of a course which I gave during the winter term /98 at the Universitat Munster. The course covered the material which here is presented in the first three chapters. The fourth more advanced chapter was added to give the reader a rather complete tour through all the important aspects of the theory of locally convex vector spaces over nonarchimedean fields. When Weber introduced the term class field for the first time, in his book on elliptic functions and algebraic numbers “Elliptische Funktionen und algebraische Zahlen” in , he meant the Kronecker class field. Weber's concern was analysis, in particular, the application of analysis to number theory .

Number theory learning seminar The seminar will meet Wednesdays pm in Room H. This year's seminar will focus on etale cohomology, the goal being to understand Laumon's proof of the main theorem of Deligne's Weil II paper that gave a powerful and vast generalization of the Riemann Hypothesis over finite fields. GAUGE THEORY AND LANGLANDS DUALITY by Edward FRENKEL INTRODUCTION In the late s Robert Langlands launched what has become known as the Lang-lands Program with the ambitious goal of relating deep questions in Number Theory to Harmonic Analysis [L]. In particular, Langlands conjectured that Galois represen-.

In this stimulating book, aimed at researchers both established and budding, Peter Elliott demonstrates a method and a motivating philosophy that combine to cohere a large part of analytic number theory.

Besides its application, the book also illustrates a way of thinking mathematically: the author weaves historical background into the narrative, variant proofs illustrate obstructions, false steps and the development of by: In this stimulating book, aimed at researchers both established and budding, Peter Elliott demonstrates a method and a motivating philosophy that combine to cohere a large part of analytic number Duality in analytic number theory book, including the hitherto nebulous study of arithmetic by: Duality in Analytic Number Theory.

As Weil says at the start of the book, it has few prerequisites in algebra or number theory, except that the reader is presumed familiar with the standard theorems on locally compact Abelian groups, and Pontryagin duality and Haar measures on those groups.

The first part of the book is devoted to the mathematical foundations of Gabor theory. The duality condition of Weyl-Heisenberg frames, connections to filter banks, the Balian-Low Theorem and Wilson bases are presented. Irregular Gabor systems and Gabor analysis for distributions are also covered.

Several books have recently been published describing applications of the theory of conjugate convex functions to duality in problems of optimization. The finite-dimensional case has been treated by Stoer and Witzgall [25] and Rockafellar [13] and the infinite-dimensional case.

“This is a nice introductory book on analytic number theory for students or readers with some background in real analysis, complex analysis, number theory and abstract algebra There are various exercises throughout the entire book.

Moreover, at the end of each chapter, historical backgrounds and developments of each particular subject or. In mathematical optimization theory, duality or the duality principle is the principle that optimization problems may be viewed from either of two perspectives, the primal problem or the dual solution to the dual problem provides a lower bound to the solution of the primal (minimization) problem.

However in general the optimal values of the primal and dual problems need not be equal. Set books. Apostol, T.M. A PREVIEW OF DUALITY We can motivate our discussion of duality in linear programming by considering again the simple example given in Chapter 2 involving the firm producing three types of automobile trailers. Recall that the decision variables are: x1 = number. It emphasizes the similarities between the modular representation theory and the representation theory for quantum groups at roots of unity.

The chapter provides basic general definitions concerning algebraic groups and their representations. In addition, it also proves the Borel-Weil-Bott theorem and Serre duality.New York: Springer, p. This graduate textbook offers an introduction to modern methods in number theory. It gives a complete account of the main results of class field theory as well as the Poitou-Tate duality theorems, considered crowning achievements of modern number theory. The elements of number theory and algebra, especially group theory, are required.

In addition, however, a good working knowledge of the elements of complex function theory and general analytic processes is assumed.

The subject matter of the book is of varying difficulty and there is a tendency to leave more to the reader as the book progresses.
